Nindethana campsite is situated approximately 30 km from Launceston adjacent to the Tamar River.  It is a sunny, tranquil bush setting with plenty to do and see both onsite and off.

Nindethana is available to schools, clubs, Scouts, Guides, youth and craft groups, conferences, training, corporate events, weddings, funerals.  Nindethana operates a not-for-profit camp and is administered and maintained by volunteers. All fees are used to maintain and develop the camp site.

The camp house offers cosy bunkrooms, with forty bunks in total.  The kitchen is fully equipped for self catering.  The separate dining room, with wood heater, can seat up to forty and the adjacent Wilkins Room is a bright, sunny area suitable for a range of indoor activities. A wide sunny verandah overlooks the river, ideal for many activities.  Equipment is available if required.

Outdoor areas are cleared, giving level sites for campers with water and cooking fire bases provided. A four metre square free-standing tree house is available for the camper looking for adventure.  Adult supervision is required.  An outdoor adventure trail is set among the trees. 

Offsite activities in the area include: sailing, wineries, Beaconsfield Gold Mine museum, sea horses at Beauty Point, the Holwell Gorge and the Gravelly Beach indoor pool, where bookings are necessary.

Accommodation and Facilities

Campsite

The campsite at Nindethana is set on a large bush block. There is a camphouse that is hired for general use and a separate Guide Hut for use of Guides only. There is parking available in marked parking areas. Parking is limited to cars only. The camphouse has a verandah that is ideal for outside dining or just enjoying the view. Outside there is a wood BBQ , and a sheltered area with fire pit. There is a bush activity track that leads to a quiet corner, a place for quiet reflection. There are several cleared areas that can be utilised for tents for that outdoor experience.

Camphouse

The camphouse has a dining area that can seat 40 people, an activity room and a kitchen. The bunkrooms sleep 38 people and the bathroom has three showers and two toilets. There is also separate outside shower and toilet.

Sleeping

There are three sleeping areas. The large bunkroom sleeps 30 people. There are two other separate rooms one with six bunks and one with two beds. All bunks have mattresses however you need to bring your own bedding including pillow and towel.

Cooking

The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas oven and large fridge. There is microwaves and toasters and cooking pots and pans. There is crockery and cutlery for 40 people.

Heating

Heating is from a wood heater that has ducted heat to the bunkrooms. Wood is supplied and there will be wood in the woodbox on the verandah. Please refill.

Covid-19 Requirements


Girl Guides Tasmania has adopted the Best Practise COVID-19 Safety Guidelines provided by Tasmanian Public Health and WorkSafe Tasmania

Everyone’s responsibilities

Everyone is responsible for protecting themselves and each other from COVID-19, including by:

• staying home and getting tested if they have any COVID-19, cold or flu symptoms

• remain at home while acute symptoms continue

• following Public Health recommendations

• practising COVID-safe behaviours.

Public Health recommends:

People who test positive to COVID-19:

> stay at home until they are well and their acute symptoms have resolved

> wear a mask indoors and when on public transport if they must leave home

> avoid large gatherings and indoor crowded spaces for at least seven days

> don’t visit people at risk of severe illness and anyone in hospital or an aged or disability care setting for at least seven days

> inform Public Health of their positive result, if they tested positive on a rapid antigen test (RAT)

> advise their workplace of a positive result – they may advise not attend to the workplace, work from home or wear a mask.

Sanitizer is available at the entry and exit to the premises and in the kitchen area. It is also recommended that you provide your own personal sanitizer to use during your stay.

People with symptoms

Public Health strongly recommends anyone with acute (or new) respiratory symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat and/or runny nose, to stay at home, even if those symptoms are mild, and get tested for COVID-19. Testing can be by PCR laboratory test or RAT.

Please do not attend the Nindethana Campsite or any other Girl Guide location while you are experiencing acute (or new) respiratory symptoms and stay at home

Anyone with a fever, who feels unwell or has any increase in symptoms should stay home even if they test negative for COVID-19.

Cleaning & Sanitizing

Regular cleaning is undertaken by a registered cleaner however you are responsible for ensuring that touch surfaces, bunks that have been used, benchtops and kitchen utensils are properly washed with detergent or wiped down with sanitizer spray provided prior to your departure and as needed during your stay.
