Girl Guides Tasmania is the state’s peak organisation for girls and young women in leadership and personal development.  We are committed to helping girls and young women develop into confident, self-respecting, responsible community members. Girl Guides Tasmania is a not for profit charity delivering non-formal education to the Tasmanian community. Volunteer led and volunteer driven, Girl Guides Tasmania strives to be mindful of the needs of families, be responsive and supportive of the needs of girls and young women and provide a volunteer experience that accommodates the variety and diversity of experience of women.

The following positions are great opportunities to expand your horizons and skill sets, while helping Girl Guides Tasmania provide the best for girls and young women of Tasmania. All applicants for any of the following positions will be subject to Girl Guides Tasmania and legislative screening procedures.  These checks are consistent with Girl Guides Tasmania’s commitment to providing a child safe environment.

If you have a strong understanding and passion for Guiding and want to help Girl Guides in Tasmania be the best they can be, then Girl Guides Tasmania invites you to apply for the role of State Commissioner. The State Commissioner is the head of Guiding in Tasmania, speaking for Tasmanian Guides at a national level, as well as leading the Guiding input to the strategic direction of Girl Guides Tasmania.The role of State Commissioner is amazing and rewarding and allows you to be involved at all levels of the Guiding Community, from unit nights to national conferences.

Candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a Board director;
  • Leadership and communication skills, particularly in conflict resolution;
  • An understanding of the structure of Guiding and the Australian Guiding Program, together with a willingness to develop her knowledge;
  • A commitment to the development of girls and women.

Nominations are now open and are open to any woman who supports the aims and policies of Girl Guides Tasmania and is a member of the organisation, prepared to make the Guide Promise.

Position Description - GGT State Commissioner

If you have a strong accounting background and want to help Girl Guides Tasmania be the leading organisation for young women and girls, then we invite you to apply for the role of State Treasurer. The State Treasurer’s main role is to advise the Board and the Finance & Property committee on matters relating to the financial position of the Association and other financial matters.

Candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • A formal qualification in accounting or practical experience and alternative qualifications to an equivalent standard.
  • Interpersonal communication and team leadership skills, including facilitation, managing conflict and chairing meetings.
  • A commitment to the development of girls and women in Tasmania.

Position Description - GGT State Treasurer

Do you have a keen interest in governance and policy? We are now taking applications for our Governance Group, who will advise the Board on matters relating to governance and its policies as requested.

Candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the Governance Group and its relation to the Girl Guides Tasmania Board.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, particularly in written work.
  • And interest and/or understanding in creating and maintaining policies and other governance documentation.
  • A commitment to the development of Girl Guides Tasmania.

Candidates are not required to be members of Girl Guides Tasmania.

Co-opted Board members are expected to provide skills and input to the Board from a non-guiding perspective. The GGT Board appoints 2 co-opted board members.

  • Financial matters, occupational health and safety and risk management.
  • Interpersonal communication and team leadership skills.
  • A commitment to the development of Girl Guides Tasmania.

Would you like to get involved with Girl Guides Tasmania at a State level? Do you want to learn or extend your skills while on an all-female Board?
Girl Guides Tasmania is calling for nominations for members to join the Board of GGT as State Council representatives. As a State Council Representative, you will provides input to the Board based on your own knowledge and skills.

Nominees will be elected at the next AGM (23rd April) and will need to demonstrate:

  • a keen interest in the operations and/or governance of a not-for-profit organisation
  • strong team and communication skills
